Nati’s Sofrito

If you know anyone from Puerto Rico and you’ve visited their house while they were cooking, do you remember smelling that delicious blend of garlic and onion, but like also, it seemed to have something else cause it just smelled too damn good!? Yes my friend, that’s that Puerto Rican sofrito!

Basically, sofrito is what I grew up with as a cooking base for all my savory dishes. From stews, to soups, to empanadas, to cooking up some veggies, you name it, it had sofrito. I was always in love with the smell, especially when my grandma would be in the kitchen cooking and I’d walk in the house. Mmmm there’s just nothing like it. Try it and you’ll know what I mean!

Nati’s Sofrito

Serving Size – 15 servings (spoonfuls)

Prep Time – 10 min


  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 1 handful of fresh cilantro
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1/2 yellow onion
  • dash of salt
  • dash of pepper


  1. Add all the ingredients to the food processor and blend.
  2. Taste for salt, add more if needed.
  3. Enjoy the yummy smell friends!
